Things of Interest in Portland - Little Red Bike Cafe

I just might leave for Portland this second now that I know exactly where I want to eat every meal for the rest of my days.
When I am healthy - LRBC will feed me. When I am looking to feel full, really, really full - LRBC will fill me. And when my sweet tooth just needs to be saturated in warmth and love - LRBC will be wrapping their loving, food makin' arms around me and smothering me.
The Little Red Bike Cafe must be heaven. With things like "Cardamom Peach French Toast—9.50 with vanilla-bean whipped cream, butter, and real maple syrup" and "VLT—8.00
smoked tempeh strips, arugula, tomato, vegan dill aioli, and avocado
on toasted ciabatta, served with arugula salad" and "Chilled Blueberry Soup—6.00
swirled with yogurt and served with a buttermilk biscuit" how could it not?

Potsch and I don't know where we are staying yet but I am going to make sure it is close to LRBC.
Be sure to check out their blog. So much fun stuff. The pictures alone will drive you nuts with hunger and excitement!

Ps- Thanks, Heidi Swanson, for the heads up!

Things of Interest in Portland - The Meadow

"The Meadow is a place of light, comfort, and beauty, where the elemental pleasures of life are brought together. Located in Portland Oregon, we specialize in exotic table salt, the world’s great chocolate bars, local and European wines, and fine art. The shop also offers full service floristry, and the air is suffused in the aromas and colors of fresh cut flowers arranged with imagination and a love of nature. With a close selection of books on food and culture and a few comfortable chairs set by the window, The Meadow is a place where you can step outside of time for a moment, linger, and let your mind wander."

How could we pass this place up? It sounds amazing. I don't doubt I will be picking up a few gifts here.

Fee Brothers Old-Fashioned Aromatic Bitters

Xocolatl de Davíd Flavored Truffles - Bacon and Chocolate

Maine Apple Smoked Finishing Salt
They have so many wonderful things at The Meadow. I love finishing salts and I would love to learn more uses for them. I am at the last granules of some hibiscus salt I got at Algabar. It is so yummy sprinkled on this peach salmon pizza I make. sounds maybe a bit odd but it is gooooood. And easy.

Ps- Thanks, Heidi Swanson, for the heads up!

Things of Interest in Portland - Makool

I am thinking I will just keep this title for all Portland related posts coming up. Let me know if that is just a hassle and I can change it.

Potsch and I are heading to Portland in October for a much dreamed about road trip. We decided to book our engagement portrait session with Kelty of Steep Street and we could not be more excited. Now, we are gathering all the places we have read about or heard about or are just now finding that we want to try and check out while we are there. We're not even sure how long our trip will be so I am trying make it so our list of places will determine our length of stay.

Email me and let me know any "can't miss" stuff for Portland. I am talking stores / eateries / museums / parks / hikes / people / you name it I wanna hear about it.

First - in no particular order - Makool Loves You. a clothing and stuff store featuring independant, Handmade, often sustainable, fashions.

They have a fun blog too.

Wurstküche is the best!

Potsch and I celebrated our first pay check from Honey B by of course
getting a German bier, Belgian fries and exotic sausages at Wurstküche
in downtown LA. Soooooo yummy! By half a bier each we were giggly and
flirty and having a blast.
If you are looking for a great time great food and super tolles bier
(super great beer in German) head on over and grab a spot at the
shared tables.
When it comes to the fries we get a large and share some curry ketchup
and pesto mayo. Devine!!!

Defrag drama

I have been having some trouble getting posts up and viewable due to
my computer being really hot and astronomically slow. (is that even
slow?). Anyway, to save my sanity and my hard drive I am having to
defrag my computer which is taking hours and multiple runs cause it
was in horrible shape. Regarding the photo - the bottom bar is your
hard drive and it's memory. The color you do not want to see is red.
That photo was taken the second time I ran the defrag. I got a lot of
red.
Luckily I have my trusty iPhone. So, I figure I can do a few postings
from the photos I have been gathering for you and never seem to make
it to you.
Hope you enjoy!

My 1950's glamourous stripper shoes

I got these at a vintage store for $15 and they might as well be brand
new. I have no idea when they will make their début. Should it be a
big deal or shall I sneak them into rotation like a sexy subtle wink?
Originally they were going to be worn for the Honey B opening but it
was too hot and I had too much running around to do. I am glad I saved
these gems. Maybe Potsch and I can time travel to the fifties for a
romantic date and I can actually shave my legs and be a proper woman.
These shoes deserve nothing less.

Steampunk for the everyday

Potsch and I were lucky to squeeze in a day at Comic Con this year thanks to our friends Win and Leen. I had never been and never really considered going but I am glad I did. I am going to post a few photos i took soon but this post is about Steam Punks.
As Potsch and I wandered around enjoying the typical super heroes - Batman, Superman, all the X-men- and some very sexy cartoon females, there was this presents that we were unfamiliar with. Groups of men and women raging in all ages were dressed in sort of Victorian era fashion, which we quite enjoyed, but they were also adorned with and toting these sort of futuristic (for Victorian times) gagets and contraptions. We found out they are a subgroup called Steam Punk.

Today on etsy I found Corpseknit which has a focus on Steam Punk. When I go back to comic con I am definitely going to sport the Steam Punk look but more on the wearable everyday side with the help of these items.
I think they clothes also work very well for Twilight fans.

I can make you say whatever I want...

...as longs as I send Puppet Artist a photo of you and pay around $200 so they can design and hand make a puppet portrait of you. Then you will be under my full control and you will fit perfectly onto a wine bottle.
But for reals - "From your photographs and a description of the person's costume, jewelry, hair, and any other accessories you might like, we can sculpt a realistic, puppet portrait of that person. The faces are sculpted to match the specific expression portrayed in photographs that you provide. They are clothed in precisely the costumes that you request. These can be humorous, realistic, or symbolic; whatever you desire."

How creepy and amazing are these? When would a puppet portrait gift really come in handy? The Puppet Artist suggest Mother's Day. I am thinking Father's Day.

Where Fashion and Food come together

Chef Cathy Shambley turned me on to the amazing blog, Luxirare. The food photos on this site look like they should walking the run way. I have never seen anyone approach food and recipes (you could actually make) with such high fashion technique and yet still be appetizing and inspiring.
Lollipop pies? Amazing!

How gorgeous and delicious does this Avocado and shellfish surprise look?! I want to run to the store and make it right now.
