Yummy Yamashiro Market

Last night I had an impromptu invitation to joining some friends at the Yamashiro Farmer's Market which takes place every Thursday from 5pm to 9pm. It was amazing! The stands were great. The food was great. The view was to die for!!! If you get a chance to head over there I highly recommend it. Potsch and I just parked at the bottom of Franklin and had a slightly death defying walk up and a more death defying walk down at night. If you are not up for tempting death might I suggest the free parking on La Brea at Franklin with a free shuttle to the market.

Bring your own wine and snacks if you want and grab a table along the lower edge to enjoy one of the best views of a Los Angeles sunset. Truly romantic.

I promise to take better photos next time. I was just so excited!

Peek inside - Artist Margaret Wuller

One of my constant inspirations is my friend Margaret Wuller. She is a brilliant artist who not only works for Dreamworks but also finds time to do her own amazing personal work too. Her sense of color and composition does not stay just on the page but rather intoxicates the rest of her world as well. Her clothing style is impeccable with the perfect balance of femininity - with soft delicate fabrics and color, and graphic structure and strength. Now imagine this same perfect balance in a home. Minimal and yet full of warmth and comfort.

Protect yourself

This past Sunday night Potsch was attacked by a stranger with a gun. He was just getting off work in Hollywood after building a set for a friends play from 6am to 2am. He and two other guys locked up the theatre and walked together to their cars. Friend #1 said his good byes and went to his car a bit further down the road and Friend #2 got into the drives seat as Potsch was getting into the passenger side. Just as Potsch is closing the door a man, who had passed them a bit earlier now headed straight to Potsch's door grabbing the handle and pulling out a gun. Potsch pulled the door shut and yelled at Friend #2 to "Drive!". Outside of the car the Stranger Pointed his gun at Potsch. Potsch suddenly kicked the door open at the guy and jumped out. The Stranger was not read for a fight. Potsch hit and kicked and faught hard. And so did the Stranger. Potsch finally kicked the guy in balls and the guy pistol whipped Potsch right on the top of the forehead. Blood started flowing fast and a lot. The guy started to run away after yelling a lame made up excuse "Sorry, I thought you were someone else!"
Friend #2 rushed Potsch to the Emergency Room where he got 7 stitches and a cat scan. I rushed to his side and we stayed at the ER till about 5am.
He is doing great now. And has gotten so much support and love from family and friends. The stitched will be out early next week. You can always talk and guess how you would be in a moment like that but you never really know until it happens. Potsch is very proud to know he is fighter.

Here is a message to all of you. I have gotten those emails about how to walk to your car or get gas or what clothes to wear so you don't get raped. I usually delete them with out reading. I also don't watch the news because it seems so picked over and untrue that I just can't trust it. I like to think if I keep the negative away then it just won't exist. Obviously Life is going to happen. That does not mean you need to victimize yourself or dwell in the "bad" stuff. What it means is you need to be prepared and awake. Don't take anything for granted. I talked to my brother, The Fireman, and he told me that there is far more crazy stuff happening everyday everywhere than you have any idea of. You must prepare yourself. If someone asks for your wallet - hand it over. If someone tells you to come with them or tries to put you in a car or tries to take you somewhere - YOU FIGHT!!! You fight even if you are going to die doing it. Cause if they take you away you will die there too but after they do whatever else they want to do. It is just not worth it. Scream. Yell. Fight.

My last thing is trust your instincts and feelings. They are right. Don't second guess yourself.

Noon Years Eve - Pretend Kids on a whole new level

Tomorrow I will be working at Kidspace Children's Museum Pasadena for their annual Noon Year's Eve. Since kids are usually in bed by the time it strikes 12am, they miss out on all the celebrating fun. Kidspace thought a great way to get the youngsters involved would be to celebrate at noon. So, from 9:30 to 2pm I will be making glittery glasses and noise makers and toasting kids with sparkling cider while balloons fall all around us. Sounds like tons of fun. And I am totally nervous.
I have been so baby crazy obsessed lately I thought it would be a good idea to cool my jets by volunteering to work with kids. Maybe by over saturating myself in tiny people I will be able to hit my biological snooze button. This may have a reverse effect considering I will be making crafts with kids all day.
Oh boy. My lil'bit of social anxiety is kicking in. Wish me luck.

Frysmith Manifested!!

I am a big believer in the Law of Attraction. Sometimes, though, I can lose faith and I need a little proof reminder. Well, today I got one and it is going to change my life and yours!
I have been craving sweet potato fries for days now. Crispy, yummy, pretend healthy, sometimes soggy delicious sweet potatoes. Today i found out about Frysmith!
Frysmith is a new mobile gourmet (running on veggie oil!) launching officially next week but I am determined to hunt them down now. What is their specialty? Well, Fries of course! Amazing, mind blowing concoctions of fries.

Chili Cheese Fries:
Angus all-beef chili made with beer and chocolate. Topped with cheddar cheese. Try it on top of sweet potatoes!

Rajas Fries:
Fire-roasted poblano chiles, caramelized onions and shawarma-marinated steak with Jack cheese

Kimchi Fries:
Kimchi with Kurobuta pork belly, onions and cheddar cheese.

Chicken Sweet Potato:
Free-range chicken in tomatillo-tamarind sauce over sweet potato fries topped with cashews.

PS- they have vegan chilli too.

It does not stop there!!!! Frysmith is going to have specials like poutine with braised short rib and cheddar, to fries with albacore, corn, and Japanese pickled ginger, to sweet potato fries with chorizo, orange and Parmigiano. Holy Holiness!!!!

And if the fries aren't gettin ya maybe the fresh baked home made cookies will. Traditional flavors like chocolate chunk as well as more unique temptations including apricot, white chocolate, and curry. Something about the idea of a curry cookies make my life feel complete.

Check out their site and follow them on Twitter. Twitter makes stalking so much easier.

Tait Simpson

I have been a photographer for awhile now. When I began I was all about street/editorial style. There was nothing better than spending the day from morning to night wandering a neighborhood with my camera and catching single moments. Back then I used film and it would take months to get that film developed because I could not afford it. But that never stopped me from just shooting every chance I got.
Now I am pretty successful head shot photographer and just starting to pick up some wedding business. I love my work and it definitely has my style stamped on it but it has become a job. I don't mean that in any negative way. I just mean I rarely make the time to wander anywhere with my camera anymore. I miss that. Shooting with out a purpose except to capture beauty. I found Tait Simpson today and have fallen in to great inspiration. The moments Tait captures are once in a life time. The kind of images one can only get by be present and aware and with a camera. I may just have to schedule a shooting date with myself. The thought of that feels so good. Please check out Tait's website and blog. good stuff.

Common Thread Studio has something to teach you

There was no Home Ec. class when I was in school. At the time I thought nothing of it but these days I am uber bummed to not know how to do a proper hem on a pair of slacks or lay in a zipper with out it getting all bunched up. Thankfully Common Thread Studio is here to teach me and YOU! Located in South Pasadena, just of the red line Mission Street stop and right next to the fun SP farmers market (on Thursday at 4pm), Common Thread has opened it's doors for passer bys to be enticed by some of there retail items, like Skinny La Minx Tea Towels, and for stumbling sewers looking to stumble no longer.
This store is open and inspiring and filled with machinery for your use (even free to use some times). There are classes for every level of sewer - from the never threaded a needle to the I have a project i need help with to the Detail Coutour. There are even classes for kids. And the prices are super comfortable.
What a great way to kick off Fall by adding to your skill set and giving handmade gifts for the holidays.

Check out their website for a schedule of classes or just stop by and say Hi! to Jin (the stunning and stylish owner) this Saturday at the South Pasadena Art Walk (5pm-10pm on Mission Street).

This is Jin. Love that dress.

Skinny laMinx tea towels and aprons.

How gorgeous is this packaging? There is a great selections of gifty things and books.

Sometimes there are silk screening classes as well (though not listed on the site). How cool is this slop sink / screen watch tub?

Walmart is the place to be for free entertainment

One of my favorite things about going to the south is getting to hang out at Walmart. It is pure free amazing entertainment besides for the great sweat shop deals they have on clothes and food.
Thanks to the site People Of Walmart, I can still get my thrills with out having to buy a plane ticket. I can just kick back in my underwear and t-shirt with no make-up and crazy hair and just judge and laugh at all the crazies at Walmart with out the stress of getting caught. Thanks god for camera hones and internet.

Halloween is awesome

Potsch and I stopped by Joanne's Fabrics last night to pick up a couple of things for some possible holiday additions to our Honey B line. While there I discovered the Halloween aisle full of kids costumes. When i was a kid my mom made all my costumes from scratch or we would go shopping at the always cool Aardvarks and she would style them into something amazing and one of a kind. i was always grateful for that cause the kids costumes back then were those horrible plastic sacks with arm holes and a creepy face mask. They were always a little creepy even when you were a pretty princess. So, I was surprised to see the quality and lushness of these costumes. Or so i thought. Potsch and I started putting the masks and head gear on and could not stop laughing at just how hidious these things were. Maybe our heads are just too big...or maybe these costumes are just lame.

This one was the worst. I thought I was going to look like this sweet sexy little kitty lady but instead Potsch told me I looked like I had just had surgery. When I saw the photo I totally agreed.
PS- did you see the price on that mask? $12.99!!!!! WHAT?!?!?!?
